AU Facilities Management Big Belly Recycling Campaign Posters
Auburn University Facilities Management requested a unique design to feature on the "Big Belly" waste and recycling receptacles located on campus. Each Big Belly has a track on each side that holds a coroplast sign and represents a unique opportunity to spread a message to the heart of campus through visual design. The project goal was to create a thematic series of two poster designs with a single core message centered on action, environmental stewardship, or personal responsibility. My strategy was to use a simple, yet recognizable Call To Action to encourage students to recycle by highlighting iconic Auburn Traditions and imagery through digital illustration. By utilizing a platform of traditions that already gave a large engagement, I believe we can increase the number of recyclers on campus in a fun and engaging way.
The two traditions I decided to focus on were Toomer’s Corner and the Eagle Flight. After every auburn athletics win, students and fans gather on the farthest corner of campus known for its long standing oak trees and Toomer’s Drugs, a local pharmacy and lemonade spot. The oak trees are heavily rolled with toilet paper to celebrate an Auburn Victory. Similar to the athletic tradition of Rolling Toomer’s, the eagle flight is another long standing tradition of Auburn University. Before every home game, AU’s very own War Eagle circles the stadium as fans chant “Waaaaaaaaar Eagle, Hey!”. The chant only ends as the eagle lands in the center of Pat Dye Field. These two traditions were selected as they are arguably the most famous Auburn Traditions and would be easily recognizable by visitors of campus in passing.
Project completed Senior year of college, 2023. My design was selected as one of the winners and is actively displayed on Auburn's Campus..
